Why Use a Bet Calculator?

Accuracy

Manually calculating the returns on a Lucky 63 or a Heinz involves hundreds of mathematical steps, a calculator ensures you get the exact figure every time.

Strategy Comparison

It allows you to quickly see the difference in profit between a €10 Single and a €1 Yankee, helping you manage your bankroll more effectively.

Handling Variables

It takes the guesswork out of complex adjustments like Rule 4 deductions or Each Way place terms, showing you exactly how much the bookmaker owes you.

What is Rule 4?

Rule 4 is a recalculation of your bet if a major favorite pulls out before an event. It is most common in horse racing, if a short odds runner withdraws, the remaining odds are theoretically inaccurate. Rule 4 applies a deduction formula to shorten everyone else's odds accordingly. You can toggle Rule 4 in our calculator to see your true return should this be enacted.

What is Each Way?

An Each Way (E/W) bet is essentially two equal bets rolled into one: a "Win" bet and a "Place" bet. For example, a €5 Each Way bet will actually cost your bankroll €10. The first €5 goes on your selection to win the race outright, and the remaining €5 goes on it to "place" (finish in the top 2, 3, 4, or sometimes 5 positions, depending on the number of runners and the bookmaker's terms). If your horse wins, you get paid out on both parts of the bet for a maximum return. If your horse doesn't win but still manages to finish in a place position, the Win portion of your bet loses, but the Place portion still pays out at a fraction of the original odds (typically 1/4 or 1/5). It is a fantastic strategy for backing horses at longer odds, giving you a safety net to secure a return even if they narrowly miss out on first place.

What is Dead Heat?

A dead heat occurs when multiple selections win the same event simultaneously. If a single winner cannot be determined (e.g., a photo finish where three horses cross the line at once), winnings are divided by the number of winners. A two-way dead heat results in 50% of the winnings, while a three-way tie results in 33%. Our calculator features a Dead Heat (DH) dropdown to handle these specific scenarios.
